Instagram code reveals unreleased voice and video calling features

It appears Instagram is preparing to launch audio and video calling features on its platform. The hint of possible new features comes from button icons in Android Application Packages (APKs).

Instagram for Android includes new possible features for their users, such as the possibility of making video calls and calls directly from the social network.

The next big star feature of Instagram is Video calls

Instagram is still looking for new ways to get hooked their users on its platform.  Instagram Stories was a boom (Snapchat’s struggle is real). Now the company wants to add new features to its platform.

You see, maybe we will see a merge between Whatsapp and Instagram.

Although there aren’t enough clues about what the interface would look like, when references are found to special functions within Android Application Packages (APKs), which is the package to shape the application, its launch in tests is usually imminent, at least for a small number of users.

It is expected that these new calls and video calls features are integrated as part of direct messages section in the app, although, given the rumors that point to a separate version of “Direct”, it may work as a separate core once Instagram decides to separate messages of its main application.

We will have to wait to see if Instagram finally integrates voice and video calls on their main interface. For now, we keep using Facebook Messenger calls.

Nice! I can imagine the filters they would have in the video calls! That would be fun to use. I’ve used Facebook Messenger’s video calls for a long time and it’s ok. I guess Instagram is wanting to get up to par with Facebook…They’re having a great time right now since SnapChat has been losing people moving to Instagram.

That is a weird mashup but okay. I will just have to wait and see how this goes.

This seems like a logical feature to add. Facebook in general wants to keep you in their ecosystem as much as possible. By allowing you call and video chat within Inst, you are less likely to go out of the app.
